Opening Night Party with Pictish Trail and friends Been waiting for the last year and a half for a decent party? Wait no longer! Come down for the opening event and help get the party started.
Our 2021 festival kicks off with a reprise of The Call: an inspiring project conceived at the height of lockdown by composer Esther Swift, summoning 20 of the best, most eclectic Scottish musicians and conducting them from across the gasworks site with huge flags.
The stages will burst to life with performances by Edinburgh-based pop-luminaries MALKA and Hamish Hawk, plus magical singer-songwriter Tiberius b, all paving the way for one of Scotland’s most significant talents, all the way from the Isle of Eigg - Pictish Trail. Not only is his Scottish indie-pop the kind to let your spirits soar, but there is a joy and mischief at the heart of his live performances, and we fully expect the opening night to feel like the celebration we have all been waiting for.

The above line-up is just part of the multi-arts festival which showcases a diverse programme of music, visual art, theatre, dance and spoken word, alongside a series of creative collaborative projects. Stay tuned for more announcements coming soon!
We have also now revealed plans to transform a nearby disused warehouse into a vast exhibition and performance space as part of the festival. The additional venue will effectively double the footprint of the festival, allowing us to exhibit the work of recent art graduates whose degree shows were cancelled due to COVID-19.
Hidden Door is a volunteer-run charity arts organisation that opens up forgotten urban spaces for audiences to explore and discover incredible music, art, theatre, film, dance, spoken word and more.
We return this summer for an outdoor festival taking place 15 – 19 September 2021 at the epic Granton Gasworks site in north Edinburgh, set in the shadow of the iconic gas holder.
Over the five days, Hidden Door will stage a series of specially commissioned collaborations with Scottish musicians and artists, creating visually stunning multimedia shows and immersive experiences.
Organisers have spent the past year exploring potential sites for staging a safe, physically distanced outdoor event packed full of Hidden Door excitement, and we can’t wait for you to see what we’ve got planned down at Granton.
